about Sandstone Symphony
Reflections from wild landscapes around Sydney and far beyond.
Sandstone Symphony explores the wild landscapes around Sydney and far beyond.
The walks and explorations described here come from years spent moving through these landscapes, camera in hand.
Landscapes shaped by angophora forests and cliffs rising from the bush — weathered walls, caves and overhangs marked by water, wind and time. These are places best explored slowly, often off track.
This site is not a guidebook or a collection of route notes. It is a record of paying attention to ancient and wild country. The emphasis is on presence over precision, exploration over direction, and the quiet satisfaction of reaching somewhere hard to reach.
You may find inspiration here for your own symphony in the bush beyond the track.
These places are observed and recorded with care. This site encourages careful exploration, thoughtful planning, and respect for the bush. Details are shared selectively, respecting both the fragility of these places and the experience of discovering them.
The site is written and photographed by Sydney-based bushwalkers exploring the wild country of New South Wales and beyond.
It is a new and evolving project. New stories and photo galleries will appear here as more journeys unfold.
Sandstone Symphony is best viewed on a larger screen — the bush deserves the space.
